About the Artist:
Elinor Janis was born in New York City. She studied at U.C.L.A. from 1952-57, then at California State University at Northridge from 1966-71, where she studied under Fritz Faiss. She then moved to Mexico to study at the Instituto Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico from 1972-75, where she studied under James Pinto. Her educational experiences led to an amazing appreciation for all kinds of art, which comes through in the themes of her own artwork.

Professional Experience:

1966-1986 Instructor in Los Angeles City Schools, parks, Instituto Allende, and women's workshops.

1986 to 2008 - Paintings and pottery sold through galleries, interior decorators, and arts and crafts shows at festivals.

Artist Awards:
Elinor Janis won the 2003 first and third prize in Modern/Experimental at Lankershim Art Gallery, North Hollywood, California, a 2002-2003 Biography in Marquis Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Women Educators, and the 2001 Second Prize in Landscape at Burbank Creative Arts Center, Burbank, California.

Art was a life-long passion for my mother.  In 2005, she was diagnosed with malignant kidney cancer.  For the next three years, even while dealing with difficult treatments, she continued her artwork and did art shows.  She was treated at the City of Hope in Duarte, CA, a wonderful center for cancer treatment and research.  She passed away in January, 2009. She was a prolific artist and although she sold a lot of her work, much of it remains.  In partnership with the City of Hope, it is being sold and 100% of the proceeds are being donated to kidney cancer research at the City of Hope.  I hope you will find something you would like to buy and at the same time be able to make a contribution to this wonderful cause.  Please contact me at the address and number below.  I would love to hear from you.

The prices for the art are from $250-$700 but this is negotiable.
